Solskjaer provide injury update on several starters ahead of derby vs Leeds

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an injury update on several senior players while speaking in an interview (h/t Manchester Evening News) before their match against Leeds United on Sunday.

Starting off with El Matador, Solskjaer said that Edinson Cavani has started has been working on his fitness. However, he may not be fit in time to play against Leeds United.

“He’s still working on fitness. He’s very meticulous in his rehab work. It’s a muscle injury that he felt in his groin.”

On top of that, Cavani faces a 3-match suspension handed to him by the FA for ‘bringing the game into disrepute’.

Cavani shared an Instagram story with the words ‘Gracias Ne*rito’ when he was replying to a close friend, who congratulated the Uruguayan after scoring a brace in United’s comeback win against Southampton.

Moving on to his centre-backs, Solskjaer provided an update on Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe. United did not name a single centre-back on the bench in their midweek win against Sheffield United.

The Norwegian said the defensive duo has had a bout with injury, but should be available for the match against rivals Leeds United.

“Eric and Axel have had had small injuries but they’re available for us for Leeds, I hope.”

Axel Tuanzebe can be back in the squad for the match against Leeds United.

The centre-back crisis is deepened by another injury. Marcos Rojo, who hasn’t played for Manchester United in more than a year, has again picked up an injury. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

In such a situation, Bailly and Tuanzebe will be a welcome boost as United aim to correct their woeful home record. The Red Devils have won just 1 out of their 6 league games at Old Trafford.

In contrast, they have won all their 6 away games. The club is just 5 points from top spot, having played one fewer game than the teams above them.
