Alan Shearer urges Manchester United to sign world-class strikers
Speaking on Match of the Day (h/t Mirror) after the Manchester Derby this weekend, Premier League’s all-time record goal-scorer Alan Shearer urged Manchester United to go out and buy strikers such as Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester United were held to a goalless draw against Manchester City in the Manchester derby on Saturday.
United, playing at Old Trafford, only managed to get two shots on target during the entirety of the game.
It was not as if Manchester City were any more attacking. The Cityzens also managed just two shots on target. However, United’s case is more worrying.
The goalless draw meant that United have scored just 1 goal in 4 matches against the ‘big 6’ this season.
Manchester Untied are also the only team in the top 8 of the Premier League table to not have scored 20 goals so far this season.
Keeping all this mind, Alan Shearer suggested that Manchester United lack a world-class striker up front and should be looking to buy one in the upcoming transfer windows.
“He’s [Cavani] 34 in February. Greenwood maybe that man in 2 or 3 years time because he’s got fantastic potential. But I think they need a top-class centre forward in this team.”
Shearer highlighted that United have no men in the box when Bruno Fernandes has the ball. That, he believes is a major problem for them.
“Greenwood and Rashford should be in and around that 6-yard box. There’s no one there, no one at all, nothing on for Bruno.”

When asked about who United could target to solve this problem, Alan Shearer suggested Paris Saint-German’s French forward Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s starlet Erling Haaland.
If United were to take Shearer’s advice and sign either of those two, it could prove to be a massive signing for the club.
United’s team has lacked the ‘wow’ factor on and off the pitch for a long time, and these two players could bring the spotlight back to Old Trafford.
