Ole Gunnar Solskajer downplays Manchester United struggles at home
According to MEN, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended the club’s woeful scoring record at home this season.
The Theatre of Dreams has been the venue for a number of nightmares this season. The club have lost three of the six home games played in the league this season, winning just one.
A major weakness has been our ability to find the net. We have managed just three goals at home. Of these just one came from open play, in the season opener against Crystal Palace.
On a broader scale, our goal tally has actually improved from the previous campaign. United have scored 40 goals in 19 games this season whereas last season they had 27 goals after the same number of games. (h/t MEN)
“If you compare our goal tally from last season to now, we are ahead.”
We have 19 goals in 11 Premier League games so far, six more than at the corresponding stage last season. It is fair to say there is improvement at least statistically. (h/t MEN)
It would appear that Solskjaer is claiming that just looking at the home tally does not reflect the complete picture.
“With the amount of games that we have played and the amount of goals we have scored, whether that is home or away it doesn’t really matter.”
While United may not have scored many, Solskajer believes it is not due to a lack of creating chances. In fact, he believes we are more of a threat this season having also looked dangerous on set pieces. (h/t MEN)
“I think we have scored and created a lot of chances at certain moments and it’s more varied in the way we score. Today we looked more dangerous on set-plays, even.”

United did manage to put five goals past RB Leipzig at Old Trafford, eclipsing our whole Premier League tally at home so far.
We can set that record straight in the coming weeks. United play five Premier League games in the next 19 days, three of them at home. Whether we will be able to indeed achieve that remains to be seen.
