Manchester United keen to bring in competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t The Express), Manchester United are keen to bring in competition at right-back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Englishman has established himself as the first-choice right-back at the club since joining us in the summer of 2019. We do however lack a dependable option below him in the pecking order.
While Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Brandon Williams are options we can consider, neither of them can be expected to seriously challenge Wan-Bissaka for the spot.
Competition often helps bring out the best in players and Wan-Bissaka too could develop further if pushed.
To this end, United have identified three transfer targets. These include Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira, Norwich City’s Max Aarons, and Barcelona’s Emerson.
Portuguese international Pereira has established himself in the Premier League since joining Leicester in 2018. Adept at both ends of the pitch, he is a seasoned professional who can be expected to push Wan-Bissaka.
The defender has been pushed to improve upon his attacking output after United failed to sign a right-winger. Given his lack of attacking prowess, it feels he has been rather underwhelming. (h/t ESPN)
Aarons too has had a season’s worth of experience with Norwich. Now back in the Championship, the Canaries star has undoubted potential. He still has ways to go but given his high potential, he is a player worth investing in.
Brazilian star Emerson is currently at Real Betis on a two-year loan from Barcelona. With Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto both already at the Nou Camp, it remains to be seen if the Catalans will be willing to part ways with Emerson.
