Manchester United could swap Eric Bailly for Pau Torres
According to TeamTalk (h/t The Express), Manchester United could include Eric Bailly in a swap deal for Villarreal star Pau Torres.
Such a deal would see the United defender return to the club where he spent the 2015/16 season. Bailly came through the youth academy at Espanyol before spending the solitary season at the Yellow Submarines.
It was here that he made a name for himself, eventually grabbing the attention of United, who signed him in 2016.
In the four years since, Bailly has made just 89 appearances for the Red Devils. A formidable defender on his day, his biggest struggle has been to stay fit.
The Ivorian international has missed an incredible 72 games due to injuries. Currently recovering from a muscle injury sustained in October, he has made just four appearances for United this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Torres, on the other hand, has been an everpresent for Villarreal. The 23-year-old came through the ranks at the Spanish club and is now an established member of their starting XI.
Boasting a near flawless injury record, the youngster has gone on to make 55 appearances for the club, of which 12 have come this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His performances have also seen him get called up for Luis Enrique’s Spain squad. Valued at £60 million, United have been touted to include Bailly as a makeweight.
Despite signing Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the United defence is far from being formidable. The signing of Torres could hand Maguire a dependable partner to count on.

While Bailly is an excellent defender, he will continue to be a liability as long as his injury struggles continue.
Torres meanwhile is a reliable option who can be counted upon to be available. Whether we will indeed make a bid to get him remains to be seen.
