Ex-PL star compares Man United star to club icons Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney

Bruno Fernandes compared to Man United icons Cantona and Rooney

As reported by the Daily Mail, former Manchester United star Phil Neville has likened star playmaker Bruno Fernandes to club legends Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney.

Fernandes arrived at Manchester United from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon in January earlier this year. The attacking midfielder has had a transformative impact at the club in a short time.

Fernandes was easily our best player in the second half of the last season, leading the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League.

And even though, he has shown signs of burnout at times, Fernandes has been heads and shoulders above the rest of the Manchester United players in the new season.

The 26-year-old put on brilliant performance this past weekend as United came back from behind to beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park. Fernandes scored a first half double on the day, before setting Edinson Cavani up for his first in Manchester United colours late in the game.

Neville, speaking in the aftermath of that performance, has hailed Fernandes as a ‘special’ player.

“‘When he speaks, he speaks like a Manchester United player, he speaks like a Manchester United captain, he speaks like a leader, he speaks like someone who wants to win. I think he’s a special player.”

The former Manchester United and Everton star then went on to claim that the Portuguese ace has had an impact similar to that of legendary United figures Cantona and Rooney. (h/t Daily Mail)

“Rooney came in and scored a hat-trick in his first game, Cantona comes in, puts his collar up and says ‘I’m a Manchester United player’. That type of impact he’s had, even in a team that probably isn’t as good as that team Rooney and Cantona played in.”
