Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire appears to take a swipe at Frank Lampard
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has sent a subtle message to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
The Blues boss accused Maguire of getting away with a headlock on his Chelsea counterpart Cesar Azpilicueta. He believes the United skipper should have been called out by VAR for his foul.
The decision however stayed in our favour and Maguire has now taken to Instagram to respond to Lampard’s allegations.
Maguire posted a photo of Chelsea defender Reece James holding him in the same match.
The United skipper did not make any comment to accompany his Instagram story. The post, however, insinuated that Lampard is looking at only one side of the coin rather than be objective in his remarks.
It has become a common practice for players to hold onto their opponents during set-pieces. Although a grey area, the defender has to be given the benefit of the doubt as long as nothing untoward happens.
United were the better team on the night and could have even won the game had it not been for Edouard Mendy.
While Lampard has the right to complain about what he sees fit, he must be more judicious in his approach. After all, as Maguire hinted, he could also have won the team a penalty had James’ actions been taken into account.

Maguire’s comments against selective targeting towards Lampard is understandable. He must however be careful going forward in the future.
Raising one’s hand against an opponent is always risky and another referee may see things differently.
The United skipper has enjoyed a difficult start to the season, thanks to both on-field and off-field issues. He is an easy target at the moment and should not make things harder for himself.
