Manchester United enter the race for Isak Bergmann Johannesson
According to Swedish publication Expressen (h/t The Metro), Manchester United are in the race for Icelandic wonderkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson.
The 17-year-old has garnered interest form a number of top teams from across Europe. Among those interested are Premier League champions Liverpool and Italian champions Juventus.
Johannesson plays for the Swedish side IFK Norrkoping. He has already scored three league goals in the top-flight this season.
The youngster made his professional debut for Icelandic outfit IA in 2018. He has also been capped all the way up to the Under-21 level at the international level.
Liverpool appear to have taken a big interest in the 17-year-old. They sent scout Mads Jorgensen to watch the promising teenager play against AIK on Monday night. The game that finished 2-2 with Johannesson playing 90 minutes.
Despite being aware of the interest, Norpokking are not overly concerned. The club’s chief scout has confirmed that they do not need money and are under no pressure to sell the youngster.
While the player and his family are aware of the interest from top teams, they are keeping a level head and know what they want.
Johannesson has strong links with England. He was born in the country during his father, Joey Gudjonsso’s stint for Aston Villa in 2003.
Gudjonsson also played for Wolves, Leicester, Burnley and Huddersfield in England, while his father, Gudjon Thordarson, managed Stoke, Barnsley, Notts County, and Crewe.
