Manchester United and Roma €5m apart in their valuation for Chris Smalling
Whether the offer will be enough to convince United remains to be seen.
The veteran defender is keen to return to Roma after impressing on loan last season. He established himself as one of the league’s finest defenders during his stint in Serie A.
Despite both the player and Roma keen to make the deal permanent, United have refused to budge on their asking price for the player.
The player’s entourage also remains ready to move once a deal is accepted. As reported by the Daily Mail, Smalling’s agent James Featherstone has put a private plane on standby to fly out to Italy at short notice.
The 30-year-old has cut a frustrated figure around Carrington and looks likely to be frozen out if he does not move on before this evening’s deadline. (h/t Mirror)
If the deal comes to fruition, he will become the fourth United player to move to Italy this summer.
