Manchester United keen on Edinson Cavani over Luka Jovic
According to The Express, Manchester United have been linked with former PSG star Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid ace Luka Jovic.
Both players are available for entirely different reasons. Cavani is now a free agent after leaving PSG last summer. A free agent, he would be a shrewd signing despite being 33.
Jovic, on the other hand, has fallen down the pecking order at Real after a thoroughly underwhelming season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t The Express), United chiefs prefer to sign Cavani over Jovic.
The Uruguayan is one of the most celebrated strikers of the last decade. He scored an incredible 304 goals and 57 assists in 439 appearances for both Napoli and PSG. (h/t Transfermarkt)
While he may have scored just seven goals in 22 games last season, the presence of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar stymied his opportunities at the Parc des Princes.
Jovic is a younger player with his best years ahead of him. However, he has failed to impress at Real and has also been embroiled in off-field issues.
He received a telling off from his country’s Prime Minister after he broke lockdown protocols to fly to Serbia for a birthday party.
Despite his promise, it would appear that the Serbian is not the best influence to have around a young team. But Cavani’s experience can make him an excellent mentor to the likes of Marcus Rashford and co.
