Everton eye Sergio Romero to replace under-fire Jordan Pickford

According to the Mirror, Everton are keeping tabs on Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero to address their goalkeeping position.

The Toffees number one Jordan Pickford has failed to impress and has often made a number of gaffes that have been detrimental for his side.

Pickford was once again in the news for the wrong reasons as he gifted Fleetwood Town two goals in Everton’s 5-2 Carabao Cup win midweek.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is keeping tabs on Romero with the player also keen on a move. According to the report, despite the interest an offer is yet to be made.

There is hope that Pickford will improve if he is provided with adequate competition. While Romero has played a backup role to David de Gea since arriving at United in 2015, he is one of the best in the business.

However following the return of Dean Henderson, Romero is at best the third-choice goalkeeper at the club.

Romero is keen to make the Argentina squad for the 2021 Copa America. He has not represented the South American giants since 2018, and sitting on the bench will hardly remedy his situation. (h/t MEN)

Romero has impressed when given the opportunity. He is amongst the best backup keepers in the league and his record of 39 clean sheets from 61 games for United speaks for itself.

Romero’s time at United is coming to a close. While he remains a dependable keeper, his opportunities this season will be severely limited.

A move to Goodison Park will be the best for all parties involved.
