Manchester United earmark Nicolas Tagliafico as Alex Telles alternative
According to the Sun, Manchester United are monitoring Ajax Amsterdam left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.
The 27-year-old is seen as an alternative to Porto defender Alex Telles. The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
United are currently in negotiations with the Portuguese champions but are yet to reach a consensus. They are also keeping an eye on Tagliafico, who can leave Ajax for £23million this summer.
United attempted to add Diogo Dalot as a makeweight in their attempts to sign Telles. However, Porto have rejected the opportunity to sign their former player.
The Red Devils are keen to bring in a new left-back after the reversal against Crystal Palace last Saturday. With the transfer window set to close on October 5, time is running out for us to make our move.
Tagliafico was on the wish list of both Leicester City and Chelsea. However, with them signing Timothy Castagne and Ben Chilwell respectively, United have a free hand at getting their man.
This assumption becomes even more prevalent, with Atletico Madrid also not in a position to afford the defender.
United will have no other option but to turn their attentions to Tagliafico if they are unwilling to meet Porto’s asking price. The Portuguese giants are keen to secure their £23m asking price in full.
While Telles has a £36.7m release clause, he is also in the final year of his contract. Porto are ready to take a lower fee rather than lose him for free next summer.

It has been a rather underwhelming summer for United. The club have only managed to bring in Donny van de Beek for the first-team. It remains to be seen if we can land either Telles or Tagliafico.
