Manchester United backed to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Julian Nagelsmann
Speaking on ESPN FC (h/t The Express), former Liverpool and West Ham United star Don Hutchinson has backed Manchester United to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Julian Nagelsmann.
The German has already made a name for himself in the Bundesliga and took RB Leipzig to the Champions League semifinals last season.
Solskjaer, meanwhile, started off the 2020/21 campaign with a humbling 3-1 loss to Crystal palace at home.
Hutchinson believes more such results will leave United with no option but to part ways with the Norwegian.
Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is another name that has often been linked to the United hot seat. Hutchinson, however, believes Nagelsmann is the better option.
“I think the next big one that’s probably going to come to the Premier League and it’s only a matter of time is probably Nagelsmann at Leipzig.”
Since Solskjaer has taken over from Jose Mourinho, United have experienced a semblance of stability. However, this has not translated into lasting success on the pitch.
While attaining third spot last season is an admirable achievement, it must not be disregarded that we were comprehensively outplayed in the FA Cup and Europa League semifinals.
While a lack of transfer activity is not Solskjaer’s fault, he must still be able to get the best out of the resources at his disposal. There is no defence for being outfoxed at home by Roy Hodgson.

While Solskjaer will be a United hero, it must not be used to cover up potential failings. Not addressing the issues when needed is akin to sabotaging our own progress.
