Patrice Evra reveals how Ed Woodward betrayed him during his exit
According to MEN, former Manchester United star Patrice Evra felt betrayed by the way his departure was handled.
The Frenchman was a loyal servant to the club and was a core member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side for a number of seasons.
He spent eight years at Old Trafford before departing to Juventus in 2014. His exit was propelled by uncertainty regarding his future at the club.
Evra had already agreed on a two-year deal with Juventus before United decided to keep the player for another season. Ed Woodward took the decision to extend the Frenchman”s contract by another year, much to Evra’s annoyance.
“I felt betrayed by Ed”
Woodward’s offer would have seen Evra stay at the club for another two years. It also included perks such as a pay rise, the captaincy and also a testimonial.
However, having already given Juventus his word, it put Evra in a tough position.
“I called Juventus to tell them I am coming. Ed then said: ‘We offer you a two-year contract, more money, the captaincy, a testimonial.’ Too late.”
Evra eventually moved to Turin and helped Juventus reach the Champions League final in his first season at the club. Unfortunately, the Old Lady lost to Barcelona.
Red Devil for life
Despite the way it ended and the downward spiral the club has seen, Evra remains a lifelong Red. No fan who has seen him play in red will disagree with that statement.
“Even if they’re in the Championship, I prefer to be at United. Nothing can replace my love for them.”
Evra’s departure coincided with an overhaul that followed the departure of David Moyes. Evra believes it was a testament to the lack of identity that was prevalent at the club at that point of time.

Despite being chosen by Ferguson, Moyes was out of his depth at United. Unlike our legendary Scot, Moyes found it hard to demand loyalty from his players.
It is heartening to know that Evra still has a place for the club in his heart. Having served us for eight long years, he deserved better but it is not the first time that Woodward had got something wrong.
