Jack Grealish urged to snub Manchester United interest
According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa hero Tony Daley believes Jack Grealish could yet be convinced to reject a move to Manchester United.
The Villa skipper has emerged as a target for Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side. Valued at a mammoth £80million, he has remained coy on links to Old Trafford.
Daley believes a call-up to the England squad could see the 24-year-old stay put at Villa Park. Gareth Southgate is expected to release his England squad for the Nations League fixtures next week.
“But if he’s been picked for England already, he might think he’s better off staying with Villa, where he’s settled and plays every week.”
With the European Championships scheduled for next summer, Daley believes playing regularly should be a priority to Grealish.
“The Euros are coming up next summer – and Jack needs to be playing to stay in Southgate’s plans.”
Daley’s assertion is based on the assumption that Grealish will find game time easier to come by at Villa. It is a fair assumption considering he is the club’s best player.
Enough opportunities to impress
However, that is not to say he would be benched at United. Although he may not be the first name on the list, Grealish can expect enough time to impress.
This is owing to the club’s thin squad. United’s gruelling squad saw the team run out of steam towards the end of last season. With a lack of strength in depth, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had relied upon the same team over and over again.
Adding Grealish into the mix will permit the Norwegian to rotate with more confidence. The 24-year-old will not dilute quality but will give Solskjaer more options.
