And with the takeover on the verge of going through, the Giallorossi will now be equipped with improved budgets to go after their transfer targets. This will allow Roma to rekindle their interest in Manchester United’s Chris Smalling. (h/t Football.london)
Smalling spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Roma. The 30-year-old England international enjoyed a solid season in Italy, so much so that the club was intent on making his transfer permanent.
However, a deal could not be agreed between the two clubs. And, as a result, he returned to England before Roma’s Europa League campaign.
Smalling featured in 37 matches across all competitions for the Italian capital club. He managed to score three goals and set up two more for his teammates.
The 30-year-old posted an emotional message upon leaving Roma, claiming that he was gutted to not finish the season. And it is being reported that he is intent on returning to the club this summer.
