Everton keen on Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot

According to the Mirror, Everton are interested in Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti has identified the 21-year-old as an option to strengthen his backline. They have struggled at the back and conceded 56 goals in the Premier League this season. (h/t Mirror)

Dalot is out of favour at United. Injuries and a loss of form have seen his standing in the squad plummet. In fact, he has not featured for United in the league since February. One will have to go back all the way to October to find his previous start for the club. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Despite injuries to both Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams, Dalot has not been able to get into the team. Clearly the writing is on the wall as far as his future at the club is concerned.

One of Jose Mourinho’s last signings at the club, Dalot could make may to help raise funds for United’s own transfer business.

Dalot has little chance of displacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka as United’s right back. He, however, does have a chance of doing so at Everton.

The spot at Goodison Park is currently occupied by Toffees skipper Seamus Coleman. A formidable player, he is now 31 and is nearing the twilight of his career.

Ancelotti is keen to bring in a long-term replacement for the Irishman. In Dalot, he may have found just that. (h/t Mirror)

According to the report, Ancelotti believes he can land Dalot for £10m. This represents a loss for United who signed him for £19m just two years ago.

United are expected to push for a higher fee as they aim to clear the squad of surplus players. This will also enhance Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s summer transfer kitty. (h/t Mirror)

A versatile player, Dalot can also act as a backup to Lucas Digne at left-back. Injuries have often proved to be his Achilles heel at United. Hopefully, he will fare better at Goodison.

Dalot has been included in United’s Europa League squad. The chances of him starting over Wan-Bissaka, however, remain remote.
