Sergio Romero wanted by Everton and Leeds United

According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League rivals Everton and Leeds United.

Romero has been at Manchester United since 2015 and has played second-fiddle to David de Gea throughout his time at Old Trafford. The Argentine has been absolute class whenever he has been called upon.

This season alone, Romero has kept 11 clean sheets in his 15 appearances across all competitions, conceding just four goals.

At the same time, David de Gea has been erratic at times, most recently costing us a place in the FA Cup final with his mistakes against Chelsea.

Romero had been the designated keeper for the cup ties, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to go in with De Gea for the semi-finals, which backfired. However, the Norwegian stuck by the Spaniard in the following game against West Ham.

This has seemingly left Romero considering his future at Old Trafford. And now, Everton and Leeds United have made their interest known in the 33-year-old Argentine international.

Romero’s contract with Manchester United runs out in less than a year. However, the club retain the option of extending it by another year.

Dean Henderson will return after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United. So, the veteran Argentine’s position in the squad is certainly under threat.

And with two Premier League clubs ready to take him away, it wouldn’t come as a major surprise if Romero decides to call it time on his United career and move on this summer.

Goes without saying, Solskjaer has a huge call to make with regards to his goalkeeping department in the off-season.
