John Barnes urges Manchester United to make a move for Declan Rice
As reported by the Mirror, former Liverpool star John Barnes has advised Manchester United to go after West Ham United star Declan Rice, who is a transfer target for Chelsea.
The 21-year-old Rice started out at the Chelsea youth academy before making the switch to West Ham in 2015. Soon after, he broke into the senior team and has not looked back.
Having initially played in his natural centre-back role, Rice was moved to the defensive midfield position by former Manchester United manager David Moyes. Since then, the 21-year-old has made the position his own for both club and country.
West Ham haven’t had the best of seasons this time out. But Rice has emerged as one of the few positives for the East London outfit. In 36 league outings, the youngster has contributed with a goal and two assists.
And now, Barnes has urged Manchester United to launch a move for the England international. (h/t Mirror)
“United must look to the future and Rice is a good young English player and would be a good signing for United. Of course, he’s a West Ham player and from his own point of view if he must move on, I think Manchester United would be a good place for him.”
Our midfield unit, comprising of Nemanja Matic, Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes has been performing top notch of late. However, Matic will soon 32 and will need to be phased out of the team slowly.

Rice, to that end, would be a fine addition to the ranks. He is just 21 and has proven himself to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League.
However, a move for him this summer seems a tad unlikely with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to strengthen other positions.
