Man United among a host of PL clubs monitoring relegated club’s rising young star

Manchester United monitor Norwich City star Todd Cantwell

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Norwich City star Todd Cantwell.

The 22-year-old Cantwell came through the youth ranks at Norwich and became a first-team regular after a loan spell away at Dutch club Fortuna Sittard.

The young attacking midfielder played a key role in the Canaries’ promotion to the Premier League last season. And while their relegation to the Championship has been confirmed, Cantwell has been one of the few Norwich City players who has impressed in the top-flight.

Till date, he has featured 38 times in all competitions for Norwich. He has scored 7 goals and 2 assists, which includes a goal against us in the FA Cup fifth round last month.

Norwich may have been relegated, but there is a good chance that he may end up staying in the Premier League. As per the report, the 22-year-old Englishman has a host of admirers in the top-flight, with Newcastle United, Leicester City and Manchester City all keeping tabs.

Along with the aforementioned clubs, Manchester United are also assessing the versatile attacking midfielder’s situation, while German champions Bayern Munich are also monitoring his progress. (h/t Daily Mail)

Jack Grealish has been one of our top targets as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add more creativity to the side. However, the Aston Villa captain might prove to be a tad too expensive under current circumstances. Cantwell, to that end, would be more than a capable alternative.

There is not much mentioned in the report in terms of United making a move for the youngster. So it does seem like there will be no attempt to land Cantwell at present.

But he is surely one to keep an eye out for as the 22-year-old has the makings of a future star.
