Chris Wilder reveals talks ongoing with Manchester United over Dean Henderson loan

As reported by the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has admitted that the Blades want to sign Dean Henderson on loan for another season. He also added that talks with Manchester United are ongoing.

Henderson is a product of the Manchester United academy. However, the 23-year-old is yet to get a run in the first-team, having been out on loan for the last three years.

After a year at Shrewsbury Town, the Englishman joined Sheffield United in 2018. He was the best goalkeeper in the Championship in 2018/19, helping the Blades earn promotion to the Premier League.

Henderson has continued in the same vein of form in his debut season in the Premier League. The Manchester United academy graduate has excelled in the top-flight, helping Sheffield United push for a top-six finish.

Till date, the 23-year-old has featured 34 times in the Premier League this season, conceding just 29 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.

While he has done enough to stake a claim for the No.1 spot at Old Trafford, David de Gea remains the preferred option at United. Sergio Romero has also done brilliantly every time he has been called upon though.

Thus, Henderson’s chances of becoming a first-team regular remain bleak as things stand. While a lot could change over the summer, Sheffield United are working on securing the custodian for another year. (h/t Sheffield Star)

“We’ve already started talking to the player and Manchester United, while respecting it’s their decision and the boy’s decision. We would love to extend it for another season. And when we get the news on that we’ll let you know.”
