Manchester United among clubs keen on Facundo Pellistri
According to Calciomercato (h/t Express), Manchester United are among a number of clubs monitoring talented Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri.
The 18-year-old has attracted the attention of some of European football’s bigwigs. The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, and Juventus are all keeping tabs on his progress. (h/t Express)
It was confirmed earlier by the player’s agent that United are keen on his client. We will however have a fight on our hands to secure him.
While Juventus have sent scouts to watch him, City is in touch with the player’s representatives. Chelsea are also keen to ramp up their efforts to ensure they land him. (h/t Express)
One advantage we could have is the presence of a former Red on the Penarol hot seat. The South American side are currently managed by former United star Diego Forlan.
According to the report, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in touch with his former teammate to garner first-hand information on the youngster. Forlan has a high opinion of the youngster and expects him to scale great heights.
Capable of playing on either flank, the 18-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Penarol first-team. During this time, he has scored one goal and made three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A major issue could be the player’s preference to move to Spain as confirmed by his agent last month. Given that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are also interested, he will not be short of suitors. (h/t Express)
Holder of a Spanish passport, Pellistri will not require a work permit if he makes the switch to Europe.

Pellistri signed a new contract with Penarol, keeping him at the club until 2022. He is believed to have a £10m release clause. (h/t Express)
United have focussed on signing promising young players in recent windows. Having already secured Hannibal Mejbri and Dillon Hoogewerf last season, Radek Vitek, Joe Hugill, and Marc Jurado will all join the club this summer.
If all goes well, Pellistri could soon join that list.
