Manchester United hope to sign James Rodriguez for cheap

According to Spanish publication Diario Madridista (h/t Express), Manchester United are set to enter negotiations for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.

The 28-year-old who was once among the best players in the world, has seen his stock fall in recent seasons. He has made just 14 appearances all season. Injuries have not helped his cause, with him missing 14 games.

With the likes of Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde and Isco all ahead of him in the pecking order, his future at the club is suspect.

The report claims that United have agreed to enter negotiations for the player but under one condition. The club will only sign the Colombian on the cheap and will not pay more than what they think he is worth it.

Real, on their part, have no illusions and have come to terms with their midfielder’s current stature. They realize they may have to part ways with the Colombian for less than they would ideally like.

Interest in the player is high, with the likes of Everton and Atletico Madrid both keeping tabs on the Colombian’s progress. (h/t Express)

The Colombian was once valued at around £100million. That is now a thing of the past and he could now move for an amount way too lesser than that.

James had earlier admitted that he previously turned down the opportunity to play for United. This was before he made the switch from Porto to Monaco in 2013.

Seven years on, he may finally get the chance.
