Chelsea ready big-money move for Dean Henderson
According to the Sun, Chelsea are preparing a big-money move for Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson.
Henderson is keen to become the number one at United. However, with David de Gea having signed an extension until 2023, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
That is not the case at Chelsea. The longer we deny Henderson the push, the more likely his head could be turned.
There is an opening at the Bridge and he can be the undisputed starter in Frank Lampard’s side. According to the report, the Blues are willing to offer around £50m for the young keeper.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has earlier accepted that Henderson will be the future United keeper. He, however, failed to put a time frame on that happening.
Club legend Peter Schmeichel too threw his weight behind de Gea as he urged Henderson to be patient. Having outdone the Spaniard this season, it is a question of how much more.
There is no doubt that De Gea was one of the finest keepers in the game. But over the last couple of seasons, his match-winning performances have been overshadowed by his errors.
The likes of Alisson Becker, Marc Andre Ter-Stegen and Ederson Moraes are all ahead of him at this point in time. With the Spaniard once again failing to impress against Tottenham, it is a case of defending the indefensible.
Currently on loan at Sheffield United, the 23-year-old Englishman has shown he is one of the best in the business.
He has made 32 appearances for the Blades and has conceded just 27 goals. This has seen him keep an impressive 12 clean sheets, leading the race for the golden glove. (h/t Transfermarkt)

De Gea has been a loyal servant who has won us many matches. But sentiment cannot overrule his inability to be consistent. Henderson may or may not be ready.
United needs to prepare a succession plan that also takes into account the youngster’s sensibilities. In trying to relive our past, we may very well be sacrificing our future.
