Man United legend sends a message of advice to rising young star out on loan

Peter Schmeichel urges Dean Henderson to be patient

According to the Metro, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has urged promising loanee Dean Henderson to remain patient regarding his future at the club.

The Dane believes the current number one David de Gea still has a lot left in him. This means that Henderson will have to wait for a while to take over from the Spaniard in the United goal.

“We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Manchester United.”

De Gea has seen a drop off in form in recent seasons. His mistakes against Everton and Watford have not done his cause any favour.

Despite that, he remains one of our best players. He has won four of the last six Player of the Year awards at Old Trafford. This saw him sign a new five-year deal in 2019.

Henderson, meanwhile, has made a strong case for himself during his loan spell at Sheffield United. He won the EFL Golden Glove in 2019 and was also a part of the English team that won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

Now back in the Premiership, he has played a key role as the Blades push for Europan qualification. He is also in the running for the Golden Glove with only Burnley’s Nick Pope ahead of him.

Henderson has been touted to become the number one at United and for England in the future. He is yet to make a senior appearance and is impatient at the lack of chances.

“You have to have so much experience and I see no harm in Dean Henderson continuing playing for Sheffield United.”

Schmeichel believes United have no reason for a change in the guard at the moment. He adds that Henderson will do well to develop further at Bramall Lane before he takes the step up.

De Gea is rightly lauded for his impressive performances over the years. But he is not the best keeper in the world anymore. The likes of Alisson Becker, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Jan Oblak are ahead of him.

In Henderson, we have an excellent keeper yet to hit his prime. Playing in a comparatively weak team, he has outperformed De Gea this season.

Henderson will do well to go out on loan for another season. Anything further will be a risk, given his contract expires in 2022.
