Manchester United face off against PL rivals for Mohammed Salisu
According to the Birmingham Mail, Manchester United are set to face stiff competition from a host of Premier League sides in the race for Mohammed Salisu.
The Real Valladolid colossus has played 28 games this season while scoring one goal and one assist. His performances have attracted the interest of a host of clubs from England. His list of admirers includes Wolverhampton Wanderers, Watford and Southampton.
The 21-year-old joined the Valladolid youth setup from African Talent Football Academy in 2017. He spent a spell among the reserves before making the step up to the senior side.
The biggest threat to his signature appears to be from Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add to his back-line. The need becomes clearer when one considers Bennett’s January loan move to Leicester City. The move could be the end of the 30-year-old centre-back’s career at the Molineux.
Although United have Harry Maguire at the back, choosing his partner at the heart of the United defence is debatable. Although Victor Lindelof has improved, a lack of consistency still stands out.
Salisu’s contract at the Estadio José Zorrilla runs till 2022. He has shown enough to suggest he has the potential to become a competent defender in the future. A giant at the back, he is also a force to be reckoned with in the air.
His performances have also seen him garner interest from Spain and France. Both Madrid clubs were previously linked, while French outfit Rennes have met his release clause and have opened talks with his representatives. (h/t Birmingham Mail)
According to the report, the player’s release clause is believed to be in the region of £10million.
