Fiorentina director confirms Premier League interest in Federico Chiesa
According to Italian publication La Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Fiorentina director Joe Barone has confirmed that Premier League clubs are interested in Italian international Federico Chiesa.
The Italian winger has built up a reputation as one of the best wide men in Serie A. He has made 26 appearances for the Viola this season and has scored 7 goals and 5 assists.
Still just 22, he has considerable experience, having played 139 first-team games. Chiesa has scored 29 goals and 20 assists in that time. This also includes an impressive hattrick against Roma in a 7-1 demolition in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals last year.
Interest in the player is high with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also keen. Closer to home, he has also grabbed the attention of Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus.
“There are clubs knocking at the door for Chiesa, some of them who speak English”
Despite acknowledging interest in the player, Barone revealed that the player’s immediate future lies in Fiorentina and completing the season with the Viola.
It was only last week that the player himself admitted that he needs to improve before moving to a bigger club. With some of Europe’s biggest clubs keeping tabs, he will not be short of options.
Valued at £60million prior to the coronavirus pandemic, it remains to be seen if the current financial crisis lowers the asking price.
Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Chiesa’s versatility is an added bonus. A full international, he has won 17 caps for Italy.
