Manchester United suffer blow in race to sign Dayot Upamecano
According to the Mirror, Manchester United have suffered a blow in their efforts to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
This comes after the player’s agent ruled out a transfer away from the Red Bull Arena this summer. With just 13 months left on his contract, he had drawn the interest of both Manchester clubs. (h/t Mirror)
The 21-year-old is the defensive linchpin of Julian Nagelsmann’s side. He has played a key role in the German side’s rise in both Germany and Europe.
Speaking on his client’s future, Volker Struth admitted that no club will be able to meet Leipzig’s asking price given the financial crisis facing football today. (h/t Mirror)
“I don’t believe large transfers will take place this summer and I think Upamecano is a player who will demand a large fee.”
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also keen on the player. That interest has however been put on ice as the Germans rethink their transfer strategy. (h/t Mirror)
According to the report, the player was thought to have already agreed on a move to the Allianz Arena. With the Bavarians now delaying their move, there was the belief that other clubs could swoop in for him.
With Upamecano set to enter the final year of his contract, CEO Oliver Mintzlaff revealed that no key player would be sold for a free. This is according to a report on Sport1 (h/t Mirror).
