Manchester United lead Spurs in the race for Joe Hugill
According to the Sun, Manchester United are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Sunderland prodigy Joe Hugill.
The Red Devils are in touch with the League One club and are in discussions about a six-figure deal that will see the youngster make the move to Old Trafford.
Hugill is considered to be one of Sunderland’s brightest prospects. In spite of being just 16 years old, he has already appeared for the club’s Under-23 side this season.
The news will come as a hammer blow for Spurs who sent their top scout Ian Broomfield to watch Hugill in the last days before the lockdown. United have, however, taken advantage of the circumstances and are now in pole position to land the player.
The Red Devils have already signed another Sunderland talent Logan Pye. They now hope Hugill will follow in the steps of his former teammate.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is rebuilding United step by step. He has focussed on bringing in a number of young promising players as he hopes to rebuild an institution that has decayed in the last few years.
Hugill is not the only youngster the Red Devils are keen on. They are also monitoring Aston Villa starlet Carney Chukwuemeka. The player was called the best 16-year-old in England by Villa CEO Christian Purslow.
