Paul Ince expects Ed Woodward to break the bank for Jadon Sancho
Former Manchester United skipper Paul Ince believes Ed Woodward should break the bank to sign Bundesliga sensation Jadon Sancho. This is according to a report by Paddy Power (h/t Express).
“He’s worth breaking the bank for.”
The 20-year-old has lit up the Bundesliga this season. Having made a name for himself last year, he has upped the ante this time around. His 17 goals and 19 assists in just 35 appearances have helped propel Borussia Dortmund to within touching distance of Bayern Munich.
United’s interest in signing the player has hit a roadblock with Dortmund refusing to lower their asking price of £120million. With the player’s contract running till 2022, the Germans hold an advantage in any negotiation.
Although Ince agrees with Woodward’s assessment that the upcoming transfer market will be a comparatively muted affair, he believes Sancho must be made an exception.
“One player that Man Utd, and Ed Woodward, would probably change their thinking on is Jadon Sancho.”
He has also gone on to add that the club risks the wrath of their fans if they miss out on the player.
“Fans would be right to be disappointed if they thought United had the chance to have Sancho, and the club didn’t fight for him.”
A new era?
Ince, however, admits that it will be a relief to see the exorbitant transfer fee become a thing of the past. He expects the valuation of a player to come down by at least 50% in the upcoming window.
United have made a number of good signings in recent windows. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire added much-needed steel to the back four last summer. Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo too have proven to be inspired signings.
