Cristiano Ronaldo commits to Juventus amidst Manchester United links
Hopes of Manchester United reuniting with former favourite Cristiano Ronaldo look to have come to nothing.
According to The Sun, the Portuguese superstar has pledged his future to Juventus until 2022, effectively putting an end to rumours linking him to a move to Old Trafford.
It will see the 35-year-old see out his contract with the Turin giants. In spite of being in his mid-30s, Ronaldo has been a hit in Italy. According to the report, he is happy at Juventus and is keen on staying put.
Talk of his return to Old Trafford was mooted after an unnamed director of football at a top European club revealed he would “not be surprised” if Ronaldo moved back to United.
The news was revealed by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague. However, he personally believes it unlikely that such a move will take place.
Juventus will likely demand around £62.5million for Ronaldo, who has scored 25 goals and four assists in 32 games this season.
Ronaldo spent six seasons at Manchester United as he evolved from a promising talent to arguably the world’s best player.
He made 292 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 118 goals and 69 assists.
A return to the Theatre of Dreams would have had a galvanizing effect on both players and fans. The Portuguese is among the best in the world and does not appear to be on the wane.
