Mike Phelan opens up on change in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mentality
In a Twitter Q&A (h/t MEN), long-serving Manchester United coach Mike Phelan has opened up on the change in mentality exhibited by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The long-serving coach has seen Solskjaer both as a player and now a manager. He believes that the Norwegian is now more thoughtful than he was during his playing career (h/t MEN).
Speaking on the topic on Twitter, Phelan revealed that Solskjaer shares more with the group now (h/t MEN).
“Obviously, I think Ole is now more thoughtful as a team manager than when he was an individual player.”
He went on to add that the Norwegian has gone from being someone individualistic to caring about the collective (h/t MEN).
Phelan also compared Solskjaer’s approach to that of Sir Alex Ferguson. The Norwegian is someone who gives the players the freedom to express themselves. Keen on the players to enjoy themselves on the field, he is more akin to Sir Alex Ferguson than what meets the eye (h/t MEN).
Having spent a good chunk of his career playing under the legendary Scotsman, it isn’t a surprise that Solskjaer picked up the Ferguson way of doing things.
Phelan also went on to add that he expects Scott McTominay to come good and turn into a leading player for United (h/t MEN).
Solskjaer’s side sits just three points off the top four, while also in with a shot at FA Cup and Europa League glory.
