Mats Hummels has been linked with a move to Manchester United for three seasons now. United had tried to sign the player in 2014 but were unsuccessful and that did not mean that the interest has died down.
Mats Hummels has not renewed his contract with Borussia Dortmund and will be out of contract next season. While some people may wonder why such is the case, apparently Van Gaal is a good friend of Hermann, Mats Hummels’ father. Though not mentioned publicly, but it is possible that Dortmund has tried to renew Hummels’ contract but the player himself is stalling due to the confidence that he can sign for Manchester United.
United did not approach Hummels last summer based on the hopes of signing Sergio Ramos, who was just using United as a bargaining chip for a better contract at Real Madrid. Hummels’ fitness issues seem to be behind him and with a good Euro performance, we may see his value skyrocket.
