Southampton Want Manchester United Striker As Part Of Shaw Deal: Why United Should Agree

Despite talk of a massive squad overhaul and a lot of the current squad supposedly heading for the exit door, United are yet to use an out-going player in a deal.

The Daily Mail reports that Southampton now want striker Javier Hernandez, as part of Manchester United’s bid for teenage left-back Luke Shaw.

It is understandable considering most of the Saints’ star players are being pinched by bigger clubs, with United interested in Shaw, Lambert signed by Liverpool and Captain Adam Lallana expected to join him.

It’s thought that ‘Chicharito’ would be looking for a move away from Manchester in search of regular first-team football and United would be willing to let him go.

Surely this option would be appealing, offload a player who isn’t going to feature regularly and at the same time bring down the price of one of your major transfer targets.

Furthermore, although United finished in a similar position to Southampton this season, perhaps with the Saints suffering an exodus of their top players van Gaal won’t see them as direct competition.

However, there is certainly something about Hernandez in his style of play which would have me believe if he went to another Premier League club he would return to haunt United.

But it will be an interesting option for United to consider, save some money on Shaw but sell to a rival or sell Hernandez abroad and pay the full £30 million?
