Manchester United held talks over the transfer of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland earlier in the season

According to Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United were involved in talks with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland earlier in the season, in an attempt to sign the forward in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a goalscorer ahead of the new season, with their current crop of forwards being underwhelming this term. Despite re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo at the beginning of the campaign, their efforts to win trophies this campaign have not paid dividends.

Other forwards Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford have also not been at their best, with the former never available for selection due to his recurring injury niggles while the latter looks like a shadow of the exciting young talent that we knew him to be.

Erling Haaland could leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Mason Greenwood’s suspension and Anthony Martial’s loan move to Sevilla have not helped our case either, with the team struggling to score goals or find winners in games that have led to us dropping quite a few points this season.

    Raiola and Alf-Inge on tour

Although United are said to have held talks with Haaland over a potential move in the summer to address their goal-scoring issues, they are only one among many clubs interested in a move for the 21-year-old in the summer- who currently has 23 goals in all competitions this season.

Raiola and Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, visited various top-tier European clubs over the course of the current campaign, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Bayern Munich. Notably, this list also included United’s rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

Despite all this interest in the Norwegian ace, it is Real and City that are said to be leading the race to sign him at the end of the season. Both clubs have deep pockets that can be utilised to snap up Haaland ahead of the new campaign, in what would be significant transfer business for either club in the summer.

Los Blancos are currently relying on Karim Benzema to supply the goals for them, and despite the incredible form he is, it must be remembered that he is 34 years of age. A young replacement will be needed in the coming years or if Benzema suffers a serious injury, and very few- if any- come better than Haaland.

City, meanwhile, only have Gabriel Jesus in the squad as a recognised number nine, but the Brazilian is hardly a consistent goal machine. Despite having the striker in their midst, Pep Guardiola has preferred using Phil Foden or Raheem Sterling as a false nine to lead the attack, as seen in their latest win against Burnley.

Surely, with both these big clubs leading the race for Haaland, United would have to do well to bring in the former Molde man. However, one can never say never, and only time will tell what happens to the Bundesliga star in the summer, and where he ends up – if at all he moves.

Transfer News: Juventus contact Mino Raiola to discuss summer move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba

According to Gazzetta (h/t The Sun), Juventus are interested in making a summer move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba, and have made contact with his agent Mino Raiola.

The Frenchman is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and stands to leave United for a second time for free. The player had earlier moved to Juventus from the Red Devils in 2012 on a Bosman transfer.

Now, it looks like the midfielder could repeat the same trick ahead of the new campaign. So far, neither United nor Pogba have provided any updates on his contract situation.

However, the Italian giants don’t have a clear run at Pogba in the summer, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also keen to secure the services of the midfield star. Into the final six months of his contract, the France international is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs at the moment.

    Deja vu for Pogba

The 28-year-old made a return to United in a blockbuster move in 2016 after spending several successful years in Turin, winning multiple league titles and cup competitions. However, his second spell with the Red Devils has not proven to be as successful as his time in Serie A.

Now, it looks like Juve have come calling for their former star in the summer, after having made contact with his agent. Since the player is available for free, they do not need to face the hassle of dealing with his club for a possible transfer.

Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has been contacted by Juventus over a possible transfer.
Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has been contacted by Juventus over a possible transfer.

It seems like a case of deja vu for Pogba and United, with events of 2012 repeating themselves. Back then, a young Pogba moved to Juventus in order to establish himself as a first-team star after only managing a few substitute appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson.

This time around though, the World Cup winner is a regular in the team and has been influential in midfield, proving some spark and trickery when his side have needed it. Although not the same player that the Old Lady had, there is no doubting that the Manchester club has looked a better team when Pogba is in form.

His time at United has been a mixed bag so far, with Pogba’s performances for the side only shining through in certain games. Further, after winning multiple trophies in his first season back with his old club, he has remained trophyless at club level.

All these reasons may possibly be why the Frenchman has not yet committed his future to the Old Trafford side. However, one can never say never, and with a few months left until the summer, fans will hope for a u-turn in his contract situation and break Juve’s hearts.

Mino Raiola ruled out any pre-contract agreement for Manchester United target Erling Haaland

According to NOS (h/t Sports mole), Mino Raiola has ruled out any pre-contract agreement for Erling Haaland amid Manchester United interest.

Erling Haaland took the world by storm in the 2019/20 Champions League. After arriving at Dortmund, he has grown to become more accurate when it comes to hitting the target. The former Molde striker has bagged 19 goals and five assists in 16 appearances this season. His consistent performances have attracted a lot of teams lately.

Even though Manchester United has been interested in the 21-year-old, there is heavy competition for his signature. It is believed that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool are all interested.

Nevertheless, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is said to be the front runners in the race. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed the heavy interest from the Madrid-based team.

However, his agent, Mino Raiola, suggested that he hasn’t reached any pre-contract agreement with any club.

“Haaland can wait for everyone. We don’t have a pre-agreement with any club.”

Mino Raiola could have a big role in where Haaland ends up next season.
Mino Raiola could have a big role in where Haaland ends up next season.

The Superagent also revealed that a stay at BVB could eventually happen, But he will choose the best deal for his client amid heavy interest from top clubs.

“We will look for the best option, and I also never ruled out another year at Borussia Dortmund.”

Haaland possesses the goalscoring intent that Manchester United need right now. The United hasn’t stepped up their game this season, and 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has been the only Red Devils forward who has been scoring goals consistently.

But, we saw in Juventus that Ronaldo alone couldn’t help the team achieve top titles. He would surely need some help in the front, and Haaland could team up with him. At this moment, there are very few strikers, let alone at such a young range, who can provide the same qualities as the Norwegian.

Thus, the Red Devils board would have a great chance in the league if they bet on the youngster. Even if it means at the cost of some current players, United should propose a cemented place in the team and a significant pay package to lure him from Dortmund.

According to NOS (h/t Sportsmole), Mino Raiola has revealed that Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt is looking for a new challenge away from Juventus.

After a successful stint with the Ajax team, Matthijs de Ligt became one of the top transfer targets in the 2019 market. Juventus was successful in luring the youngster. Even though at times he proved his worth, he couldn’t replicate his success in Italy.

However, the 22-year-old remains to be a key player for Massimiliano Allegri. The former Ajax man has made 19 appearances for the Old Lady this season.

De Ligt’s age still makes him a viable investment option for any team. In such a scenario, Manchester United has kept the tab on the defender so has Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mino Raiola has suggested that his client De Ligt is eyeing for the next chapter of his career, and the Italian superagent will view his options in the summer for a possible destination.

“I think we all know which clubs to mention for Matthijs de Ligt as ‘next step’. We will see this summer.”

Raiola didn’t rule out a Premier League move but added three more teams to the list of possible destinations.

“Premier League? It can be Barcelona too, or Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.”

Manchester United’s record-signing Harry Maguire hasn’t lived up to the expectations during this campaign. The English defender has made severe blunders this season which has decreased his reliability in the last few matchdays.

Mino Raiola rubbishes report of pocketing £41m from Manchester United for Paul Pogba

According to NRC (h/t 90min), Mino Raiola has disagreed with the Football Leaks report which suggested that the Italian agent pocketed €48m (£41m) for his role in the transfer of Paul Pogba to Manchester United.

Raiola is one of the top agents in the sport and is known for his massive influence on the players he represents. Furthermore, he has the power and influence on the market to orchestrate big deals. In such a case, the Monaco based agent also gets a fair share of money from completed contracts.

The superagent had a significant role in Pogba’s return to Man United from Juventus in 2016. At that time, it was a record signing. and the Red Devils had to pay £89m to make the deal happen.

Even though Raiola’s fee in completing the deal wasn’t specified, Football Leaks leaked some documents that suggested the Italian pocketed a whopping €48m (£41m) as commission.  In a recent interview, Raiola has revealed that he didn’t take such an astronomical amount of money.

“That amount from Football Leaks is not correct. I will say no more about that transfer.”

The superagent added that the Organization leaked such false documents out of jealously from his success in the transfer market. Raiola also praised the football market for his success over the years.

“That’s jealousy. We [agents] ensure that players can perform optimally. And that the player gets his fair share. Otherwise, we would still have been sitting around with napkins on which some numbers were scribbled. I am fortunate to work in an industry that has grown exponentially.”

Romano: Barca steal a march on Man United by meeting super-agent for 21-year-old goal machine

Barcelona president Joan Laporta met Mino Raiola over Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland amidst Manchester United interest

According to Fabrizio Romano via Daily Mail Online (h/t Manchester Evening News), Barcelona president Joan Laporta had a meeting with Mino Raiola to discuss matters over Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland amidst interest from Manchester United. His future has been a constant discussion among many due to his talent coupled with the relatively low release clause.

Haaland has had a ridiculous goal involvement since his move from RB Salzburg to Dortmund in 2020. Having featured in 73 matches, he has scored 74 goals with 20 assists to add to it. That is quite a mind-blowing output and rightly places himself as one of the, if not the, most lethal strikers in the world right now.

Romano revealed that Raiola and Laporta had met in Italy to discuss a potential move in the future. The Norwegian has a release clause of £64million, which would get activated at the end of the 2021-22 season. However, Barca are cash-strapped, and their financial problems have been well documented.

Man United are keeping tabs on the Dortmund star and they could be concerned due to this development. The super-agent and the Blaugrana president have a great relationship between them which cannot be said for everyone else. It remains to be seen whether something would result from the meeting as time goes on.

    Concerning

Most United fans know how the agent has had a shaky relationship with the Red Devils over the years. He is also the agent of Paul Pogba and has had a fair few run-ins with the Red Devils in the past.

The Spanish club has an advantage over us in that department but their financial ability to meet the expenses incurred in such a move is still something which remains unclear. That should even the playing field in general but at the end of the day, very few people can predict the complex factors that can arise during transfer negotiations.

The Bundesliga attacker would be a fantastic signing for the future as he has years left in his bag and would provide an instant lift in quality to our squad. With Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani nearing the end of their careers, we would need someone like him to fill that gap.

However, we do have other areas that need reinforcements at the moment, and only time will tell whether that would interfere with our pursuit for the Norwegian international. We would hope to get the youngster to Old Trafford, but it would not be an easy task for the aforementioned reasons.

It’s always good to have talents like Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Anthony Elanga at the club. But if a talent like Haaland, whose goal-scoring numbers attest to his ability, is available on the market, a club like Man United should be all over it like a rash.

Haaland has a release clause of £64million, which would be a pretty low cost for someone of his quality. The super-agent mentioned clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as the potential destinations for his client. Intriguingly, he conveyed how City had more Premier League titles than United.

Neville tweeted on his social media handle (h/t The Sun) and slammed Raiola for his comments on Man United. He was responding to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, who quoted the interview of the agent with Sport1.

“I know we’ve been c**p recently but Mino Raiola has wiped out all United’s premier league titles in one foul swoop.”

    Right Context

At first glance, it would seem that the club legend has all the right to be angry, but with the correct context, it tells us a different story. The quoted tweet from Romano did not mention how the 54-year-old agent was talking about the recent history.

It got cleared by journalist Patrick Berger, who interviewed Haaland’s agent when he replied to the former right-back’s tweet. However, it still does not give an excuse on why there was a need to mention us in the first place. He could still have got his point across without hitting at us, and for that reason, the comments made by the Red Devils legend is deserved in a way.

From the Norwegian striker’s agent’s comments, it is clear that we are not the first preference when it comes to a future destination. We already have a history with Raiola as he is also the agent of Paul Pogba. He has had a strained relationship with the Glazers and would often take swipes at the club when addressing matters related to Pogba.

We did not appreciate that at all, and this adds to it. Unfortunately, a quality forward like the 21-year-old is represented by someone like Raiola. Otherwise, we could have had more chances to land him.

Mino Raiola has made two demands to Manchester United regarding January exit for Paul Pogba

Speaking on the Transfer window podcast (h/t The Express), Ian McGarry has revealed that Mino Raiola has made two demands to Manchester United over a potential exit for Paul Pogba in January.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract and shall become a free agent at the end of the season. In fact, he shall become eligible to talk to foreign clubs at the start of 2022.

However, if he fails to sign a new contract, United may be ready to cash in on him in January. But that has its own complications. Mino Raiola has set two demands to the club if they wish to sell his client in the winter transfer window.

Ian McGary told the Transfer Window Podcast about the demands made by Mino Raiola (h/t The Express).

“One of them is, on the basis of what he cost Manchester United, then the fee should be no more than what is the remainder of his contract, compared to the money they paid. This would see him valued at under €20m, which seems amazing, but there you go.

“But also that should Pogba leave in January, then he should be paid a loyalty – irony in brackets – bonus that he is due at the end of his contract in July. That we believe amounts to around €4.5m (£3.7m) net.”

Pogba signed for United for £89million in 2016, and letting him leave for under €16.8million would be a huge loss. Regardless, something is better than nothing, and that money can be used to make some midseason additions. But while this deal makes sense financially, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be reluctant to let his star leave in January.

The midfielder has already provided 7 assists this season and remains their chief creator. While an injury has ruled him out of action until the end of the year, he could prove vital in the second half of the campaign. Hence, several factors need to be taken into account before sanctioning a move for the Frenchman.

Mino Raiola hints at Paul Pogba exit from Manchester United ahead of January window

Speaking to Italian channel Rai (h/t Daily Mail), Mino Raiola has hinted that he cannot stop anyone from dreaming amidst a potential exit for Paul Pogba from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, and he is yet to sign a new one. This could be problematic as United might have to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

His agent, Mino Raiola, is always in the news for the right and wrong reasons. In the 2019/20 season, he claimed that it could be time for a ‘new challenge’ for his client. He followed it by stating that it would be best to ‘sell him in the next market’ in 2020.

This time around, the Italian super-agent has revealed that he cannot stop anyone from dreaming. Raiola told Italian channel Rai (h/t Daily Mail):

‘December is the month of dreams… and I cannot stop dreams, but it is better to not speak about Paul. If some former Man United players do not speak about me and Paul, they won’t work anymore.

‘It’s too early to speak about Paul Pogba’s contract. Let’s see what happens. I cannot stop anyone from dreaming.’

The thinly veiled statement is a subtle indication of the upcoming January transfer window. If a new deal is not agreed upon by the end of 2021, Pogba could talk to foreign clubs. He shall be a big miss, especially after his great start to the season. The French international provided 7 assists in his first four league games.

Since then, he has fallen down the pecking order before getting a red card in the defeat to Liverpool. The Frenchman also recently picked up a thigh injury, ruling him out of action until the end of the year. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the midfielder has already his last game for the club, amidst interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus.

According to Calciomercato (h/t Cult of Calcio), Matthijs de Ligt and Mino Raiola are set to discuss the young defender’s future with Juventus amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Turin outfit splashed a whopping €75m to acquire the Dutch defender in the summer of 2019. He was part of the memorable Ajax Amsterdam team that made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Dutch international had a rocky start to life at Juventus but had gone on to become an important part of their backline recently. His contract with the Italian giants runs till 2024.

The 22-year-old still has a lot of potential and has immensely profited from the proximity of veteran defenders like Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini. The young defender seems to be developing at a good pace and has attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

The young defender has already made 87 appearances for the Bianconneri across all competitions during which he has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists for Juventus. The Serie A club could be looking to decrease their wage bill and de Ligt is one of the highest earners at the club right now.

The Red Devils have struggled at the back this season. They have leaked goals against the biggest teams like Liverpool, Leicester City, and Manchester City this season. Their defense looks shambolic at times despite bringing in top players like Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.

Whilst discussions are still going on between Juve and the 22-year-old Dutch international, even if the opportunity presented itself any move for the youngster could be a costly affair.
