Manchester United alerted by Goreztka's situation.

Man United on red alert for Leon Goretzka

Manchester United are back to winning ways with a 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, just days after defeating Southampton 3-0 in the Premier League. The Red Devils are in for a busy season ahead if they progress further in the cup competitions and the Europa League and consequent to that, they may explore feasible options in the transfer market in January if any arise.

According to The Sun, they are alerted by Leon Goreztka’s situation at Bayern Munich with the midfielder having been excluded by Vincent Kompany’s plans for the ongoing season. He has featured across just 10 minutes so far in all competitions and although he struck a goal in Bayern’s 9-2 mauling of Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, it is unlikely to be enough for him to re-enter the manager’s plans.

If his situation does not improve, it has been reported that the player will consider his future in January and Manchester United are expected to keep close tabs on any such developments, with West Ham also expected to be in the picture. Goretzka has been linked with a swoop to the Premier League since his days as a Schalke player with United being particularly long-term admirers of his qualities.

The 29-year-old’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June 2026 and with a return to prominence not expected to occur at Bayern Munich, an extension of terms might not be on the cards. As a result, Manchester United could even be able to sign him for a discounted transfer fee though it remains to be seen if they would be keen on another midfielder having already signed Manuel Ugarte.

Christian Eriksen is also expected to stay at Old Trafford for the entirety of the season, whereas Casemiro’s future also seems to be in Manchester United for the time being. Bayern Munich could also decide to retain Goretzka in the winter given his experience and utility in the Champions League, while they also would not want to compromise on their squad depth in Club World Cup participation due for them next summer.
