Bayern Munich rejects joint bid from Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, surprising the club and agent
Bayern Munich surprised Manchester United and the agents of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui by rejecting their offer. The Red Devils submitted a joint bid for the two players and believed that the deal offered was a sufficient amount.
De Ligt has already played for two top clubs Ajax and Juventus before joining Bayern in the 2022 summer. The 24-year-old struggled with recurring injuries and fell down the pecking order behind other centre-backs in the Bayern senior squad.
Meanwhile, Mazraoui also joined the German giants during the 2022 summer from Ajax after establishing himself as a versatile fullback. The 26-year-old is capable of playing in several positions, acting as a perfect utility player working according to tactical requirements.
According to the Telegraph, Bayern’s rejection of the offer surprised Man United and the player’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta. Both De Ligt and Mazraoui are surplus to requirements at Munich and a healthy deal should allow an easy transition.
The Red Devils want to add more depth in their defence after their last season’s struggle in the department. United have already lost Raphael Varane in the transfer market with the future of Victor Lindelof uncertain as well.
Lindelof has one year left in his current contract and a move would benefit the club to raise more funds. United signed Leny Yoro for a significantly high amount despite his immense quality and potential, taking out a good chunk of transfer funds.
The agreement between Matthijs de Ligt and Man United remains valid, he’s only waiting for United since June.

Same for Nouassir Mazraoui, waiting for Utd since last week.
Players’ agent Rafaela Pimenta agreed on five year contract plus option until 2030 for both of them.
Getting De Ligt and Mazraoui is a market opportunity benefiting all the parties involved but the big’s rejection complicates things. United needs to decide whether they increase the bid or look elsewhere to bolster its defence department.

Considering the fact that Bayern are ready to sell the two players, United should not increase their offer massively. However, they need to move fast to have a chance of signing alternatives before the summer transfer window closes.
