Man United find agreement with Marseille for Mason Greenwood’s sale

Manchester United and Mason Greenwood are expected to permanently part ways this summer with the forward’s future not likely to be in England following his off-field scandal in 2022.

The Englishman was offered a route to reignite his career with Getafe last season, where he produced fantastic numbers on loan by scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in all competitions.

It is unforeseen that the La Liga side will be able to sign Greenwood permanently, though the Red Devils have now found an agreement with Olympique Marseille for his sale, as per The Athletic.

Marseille are ready to pay a total transfer fee of €31.6 million for the 22-year-old and a sell-on fee. The fixed amount of the deal is set at €27.6 million along with €4 million in add-ons and bonuses.

The transfer is subject to the player reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Ligue 1 side, although there is an uproar from Marseille’s mayor and fans regarding his possible arrival.

The club’s external stakeholders are hesitant to support Greenwood’s move to the Orange Velodrome as they believe it would tarnish Olympique Marseille’s image and public reputation.

Manchester United will hope that they see the back of the issue, however, and can finally move on from Greenwood’s longstanding saga by sanctioning his move to the south of France.

By moving to Marseille, Greenwood will have the chance to work under Roberto De Zerbi, who was most recently Brighton & Hove Albion’s coach before leaping to the French side.

An influx of funds close to €30 million would also go a long way in ensuring that Manchester United can carry out their desired transfer business this summer.
