Man United to receive stiff competition for Manuel Ugarte’s transfer
Manchester United are expected to close in on transfers for Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt in the upcoming days with both Dutchmen likely to be available for their pre-season fixtures.
Alongside Erik ten Hag’s compatriots, the Red Devils also need to recruit a central midfielder and have shortlisted Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte as a possible signing.
French outlet Le10 Sport has reported that the Uruguayan midfielder is also wanted by Barcelona and Manchester City, alongside Man United with all three clubs already engaging in talks for his transfer.
Ugarte is enjoying a productive tournament at the Copa America with Uruguay in the semi-final of the competition, though is widely thought to be departing PSG this summer.
The Parisians are looking to make new additions in the transfer window and are open to offloading Ugarte to create space in the squad after he had a mixed season in the French capital.
The 23-year-old was monitored by Manchester United since his Sporting Lisbon days and therefore, they will feel confident of signing the midfielder this time around should he leave PSG.
The Red Devils’ chances of signing Ugarte may also hinge on Casemiro’s future as they may only be able to afford a move for him if the former Real Madrid star departs for Saudi Arabia soon.
Barcelona and Manchester City, however, have qualified for the Champions League next season and can use European football as their selling point in a bid to bring in Ugarte.
It is said that Luis Enrique will have the last word regarding his future and the Spaniard is yet to make a decision on whether or not he is ready to let Ugarte depart in the summer.
