Manchester United eye Manuel Ugarte to bolster Ten Hag’s midfield

Manchester United are looking to add Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte to their squad this summer as they look to bolster the midfield at Erik ten Hag‘s disposal, per Footmercato.

The Red Devils have a dire need to add in the middle of the park as they have suffered greatly because of insufficiencies in the midfield, which play a domino effect on their ability to control games and provide adequate cover in front of the defence. Casemiro has not been his Real Madrid self since moving to Old Trafford, while last summer’s signing Sofyan Amrabat has struggled to make his mark in the English top tier.

This will force United’s hand into bringing a new marquee midfielder this summer, and they have landed on Fénix’s youth academy graduate Manuel Ugarte.

The £50m answer to Manchester United’s midfield crisis?

Manchester United have shown genuine interest in bringing Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford next season. The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder is seemingly looking for a move away from the French giants this summer, and he is reportedly “close” to joining the Premier League giants, per Diego Munoz.

The ESPN journalist revealed that Luis Enrique has already informed the player of the club’s decision over his future. He said:

“He is close to United. Ugarte is not going to continue at PSG. Luis Enrique has already told him that he is not going to take him into account. He was not comfortable with the team either, and so options opened up. PSG wants\ to release Ugarte to someone who will put part of the money that they invested in the Uruguayan footballer, and Manchester United is willing, and given this, they are most likely his future team.”

PSG are looking at a possible £50 million payout for their midfielder, per iNews. United would not mind paying the sum, looking at the quality that the 23-year-old possesses. Ugarte could partner Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield for another decade to come if this move works out as expected from all the parties involved.
