Man Utd target Calafiori after Branthwaite deal fails
Manchester United are reportedly looking to take a pick for their central defensive role as the Red Devils look to fortify their interests in Italian international and Bologna star defender Riccardo Calafiori.
There is a dire need for recruitment at the heart of the defence at Old Trafford this summer as the club loses the central-defensive duo of Raphaël Varane and Jonny Evans. The Red Devils now have a particular need for a defender this summer; they need a left-sided centre-back, and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been the priority target.
However, the deal between both clubs for the England international has been off, and the club have now switched their attention to Riccardo Calafiori. The Manchester Reds have been willing to pay €60 million to acquire the 22-year-old this summer, per Fichajes. There have been high demands for his services due to his promising performances, as clubs from the Serie A and Premier League vie for his services this off-season.
The next Nesta?
There have been ample talks about the aura surrounding his defending and how he looks like one of the traditional Italian no-nonsense defenders like Paolo Maldini or Sandro Nesta following his performances at the ongoing European Championship in Germany. It’s easy to say that, but the player has been reciprocating those comparisons on the pitch for a while now.
Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in acquiring the Italian defender along with their Premier League rivals, and Italian giants Juventus have been subjected to massive attention to land him as well.
