Surprise Italian club join Juventus in race for Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood

Juventus enter the race for Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood

According to an ESPN report, Juventus have entered the race to sign Man United forward Mason Greenwood this summer.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at La Liga club Getafe after United botched an attempt at reintegrating him back into the first team.

Greenwood had a productive season for Getafe and finished the 2023/24 season as their player of the season, prompting big-name European clubs to take an interest in acquiring his services.

Serie A club Lazio have been linked with him in recent weeks and now face competition from Juve, who under new coach Thiago Motta are looking to build an exciting side next season.

Greenwood’s current United contract, fetching him £50k a week, is set to run out at the end of the 2024/25 season, so the Red Devils are keen on selling him this summer and are expected to be looking for a fee in the region of £30 million.

Greenwood ought to be anywhere else but at Old Trafford next season

As far as United are concerned, their equation remains clear in this matter: ship Greenwood out as soon as possible.

Now that it has become clear that clubs in Europe are interested in him, United have no excuse for not being able to move him on, even if that means accepting a fee of less than £30 million.

Sometimes, hard business decisions need to be made, and sometimes decisions need to be made regardless of how bad they are for business. There are more important things in life, and if United do intend to at least pretend like they are an institution of virtue, they’d be wise to be quick in sorting this situation out in the summer.
