"He got another trophy" - Pundit makes a case for Manchester United's decision to stick with Erik ten Hag but says one 'situation' needs immediate solution

Erik ten Hag needs to sort out the Jadon Sancho situation, says Clinton Morrison

In a recent Sky Sports appearance, Clinton Morrison mentioned that next season, among other things, Erik ten Hag would need to sort out the situation with Jadon Sancho.

He had this to say on the matter:

“He needs to sort out the [Jadon] Sancho situation.

“You can’t have a player like that go to [Borussia] Dortmund and turn it on.

“Yes, there’s ability in there, but there’s stuff that’s needed to be sorted out here.”

It was recently confirmed that Ten Hag would continue as the Man United manager next season after the club’s INEOS sporting ownership delivered a verdict after weeks of deliberation.

Sancho spent much of the first half of the 2023/24 season away from the United first team after falling out with Ten Hag. He was sent back on loan to Dortmund for the second half of the season, where he quickly returned to the BVB starting XI and played a key role in them reaching this year’s Champions League final.

Dortmund are interested in buying Sancho back permanently, but it depends on the price tag United put up for him.

Sancho’s £195k-a-week deal at Man United is set to run until June 2026.

You don’t say

It’s no esoteric take to say that United need to sort the Sancho situation out now that they have chosen Ten Hag to be at Old Trafford.

There is reason to believe, however, that United are keeping the Dutchman around just to maintain the continuation of the existing setup until they sort out their sporting director situation to make long-term calls.

Regardless, with Ten Hag set to be at Old Trafford next season, one can safely assume Sancho won’t be there. United are already keen on letting him leave permanently if reports are to be believed, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he was to be let go on a season-long loan, probably again to Dortmund.
