Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is wanted by newly-appointed Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof this summer.

Victor Lindelof, 29, arrived at Manchester United from Benfica in the summer of 2017 when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. Since joining the Red Devils, the Sweden international has racked up 259 appearances, winning the EFL Cup and FA Cup thus far.

Jose Mourinho was announced as the new manager of Fenerbahce last month and his first summer in charge has seen the Turkish club target some high-profile names. Along with the club, the Portuguese tactician has prepared a list of alternatives to solidify his backline, and Victor Lindelof tops that list.

Fotomac reports Fenerbahce are ‘excited’ about the possible signing of Victor Lindelof and have started their attempts to bring him to Turkey. They will try to wrap up a deal by offering Manchester United €8m for his services, although the Swede has a market value of €15m.

The report adds that the Istanbul-based club’s management shares a cordial relationship with Manchester United and will look to soon finalise the transfer of Lindelof, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Lindelof has been a decent performer for Man United, despite failing to fully establish himself as a regular starter. Due to injury problems and inconsistency, the 29-year-old was limited to only 19 Premier League appearances.

Owing to last season’s defensive crisis and the exit of highly experienced Raphael Varane, INEOS have prioritised signing two central defenders this summer. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite features high on INEOS’ list of defensive targets, while Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt is also on the radar thanks to Ten Hag’s interest in the player.

Lindelof has not managed to fulfil his promise at Old Trafford over the years, and with him about to enter the final year of his contract, Man United must cash in on him. At 29, the Sweden skipper can still deliver for three years at the highest level and a reunion with Mourinho at Fenerbahce could benefit his stuttered career.
