Manchester United seriously considering the signing of Franco Mastantuono

Manchester United are interested in signing Franco Mastantuono, who has also emerged as a target for Real Madrid in recent months, Fichajes, citing Diario Sport, has reported.

The Red Devils are expected to map out a new transfer strategy following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a stake in the club and the idea of signing young players from South America is an appealing prospect, which a number of other European clubs have also adopted of late.

Mastantuono has earned the reputation of being one of the best Argentinian youngsters having already debuted for River Plate at the age of 16.

Real Madrid’s interest in the teenager is far more advanced than Manchester United’s, with Los Blancos even sending scouts to watch him play for River Plate.

It is understood that Mastantuono has a release clause of €45 million, which increases to €50 million in the final days of the transfer window.

While the Red Devils are still in the formative stages of pursuing Mastantuono, the are expected to imminently open talks with River Plate as well as the player’s agents.

If indeed Mastantuono signs for United, he would stay at River Plate until August 2025. Once he turns 18, he will be able to head to Old Trafford to sign his first professional contract.

With Real Madrid already a few steps ahead of their competitors, including bitter domestic rivals, Barcelona, United may be late entrants to the race for Mastantuono’s signature.
