Opinion: The £50m net-spend figure that makes Jonny Evans' Manchester United renewal a desirable scenario

Manchester United will look to renew Jonny Evans’s contract

Manchester United may look to extend the contract of Jonny Evans in an effort to beef up their center back options after the departure of Raphael Varane. The main focus at Manchester United in recent days has been on the end-of-season evaluation to determine Erik ten Hag’s future, which remains ongoing following Thomas Tuchel’s withdrawal from contention.

Despite this, there have been ongoing discussions about potential signings, including Lille’s promising young center-back Leny Yoro, whose contract is nearing its end. While Manchester United holds Yoro in high regard, they face competition from other clubs, with Real Madrid currently seen as the frontrunners. Reports of a €60m bid from United have been downplayed. Additionally, United’s attempt to secure Tosin Adarabioyo as a free agent was unsuccessful, as the player has already committed to Chelsea. Yoro and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are mentioned as potential options to fill the void left by Raphael Varane’s departure, though they won’t come cheap.

Despite financial constraints, United is still actively seeking reinforcements, with center-back, central midfielder, and center-forward being the primary targets. Talks with Jonny Evans for a contract extension are ongoing. Jarrad Branthwaite remains a target, especially given the need for a right-sided center-back. Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana is under consideration for midfield, while RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, previously a target, will not be joining. AC Milan is a more feasible destination for Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

More Manchester United News-

Considering the fact that Manchester United need to improve various positions in the team it seems likely that they will look to save costs by making certain strategic moves. With a shoe string budget of only 50 million pounds net spend available in the transfer window and many positions such as striker, winger, midfielder, and center back to fill. Manchester United may choose to extend Jonny Evans’ contract just to ensure they have enough players to cover the center back position now that Raphael Varane has departed from the club. Manchester United are short on options in the center back position and need to sign at least 2 more players to compete in the Premier league. Even though Jonny Evans is old and not al elite player he would be a viable option considering the transfer budget restriction.
