Manchester United could lose out on Lille’s defensive wall Leny Yoro to Real Madrid
According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United are among a host of clubs interested in signing highly-rated LOSC Lille talent Leny Yoro.
Leny Yoro, 18, one of the brightest young defensive prospects in Europe, is wanted by pretty much all of Europe this summer, including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. The teenage Frenchman’s contract at Lille expires at the end of June 2025 and he is likely to be on the move this summer amid heavy interest from European bigwigs.
Manchester United are Real Madrid are two big European clubs keen on signing Leny Yoro. The Athletic reports the Lille star prefers a move to the Spanish capital over Old Trafford with Real Madrid still favourites to secure his signature when the transfer window reopens later this week.
After INEOS complete their end-of-the-season review and resolves Erik ten Hag’s future, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team will switch their focus toward getting their summer targets. It is the first transfer window under INEOS and changes are certainly expected, even though they will not be wholesale.
The glaring gaps in the squad that finished eighth in the Premier League last season are clear, with central defence and midfield the priority areas to address.
The Red Devils are willing to bring in defensive reinforcements after an injury-ravaged campaign which saw the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans struggle for fitness at different junctures.
With Varane announcing his departure at the end of last season, Martinez enduring another injury-hit season, Evans past his prime and the futures of Maguire and Lindelof in doubt, we must bring in at least two quality centre-backs to Old Trafford this summer.
Thus, Man United’s interest in Yoro is understandable. However, Real Madrid appear to be favourites for the talented defender’s signature at this moment. In that case, it will be extremely difficult to persuade the Lille star to choose Old Trafford as his next destination with Los Blancos firmly in the race.
