Omari Forson of Manchester United in action

According to the Manchester Evening News, Omari Forson is set to leave Manchester United this summer.

The 19-year-old forward’s current contract with Man United is set to expire at the end of this month, and despite the club having offered him a new deal, the England U20 international has so far rejected all talks for an extension.

Forson had been offered sporadic appearances at senior level by manager Erik ten Hag in the season gone by but failed to make any long-lasting impression.

Forson is represented by super-agent Kia Joorabchian’s Sports Invest UK agency; the Iranian-British businessman infamously pulled off Carlos Tevez’ move to Man City back in the day.

It is to be noted that United have an abundance of options in the positions Forson occupies and are ever linked to even bigger names, which must have been crucial in young starlet’s desire to move away.

A bold call, and not a surprising one

Forson’s call to move away from the club makes sense on paper. His performances last season did not set the stage on fire like those of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho did, and he thus has a lot of players in front of him in his preferred positions.

Erik ten Hag has gotten the best out of some youth players.

19 is a delicate age for a professional footballer, and if they don’t regular playing minutes at senior level over the next three to four seasons, it can take them from

potential heights of topflight football to a commendable yet underwhelming career in the second and third tiers during their prime years.

With this move, it is clear that Forson is confident of finding his feet at a relatively “smaller” club and build his career from there. Once can only laud him for making such a bold choice.
