Casemiro pens emotional Instagram post to congratulate Toni Kroos upon completion of footballing career
Casemiro joined the footballing world in congratulating Toni Kroos for his successful playing career after the German midfielder announced his retirement yesterday.
Kroos confirmed on his podcast, Einfach mal Luppen (“Just Suck It Up”), and later on social media that he would hang up his boots after UEFA Euro 2024.
The veteran Brazil international played seven years alongside the 34-year-old, forming one of the most formidable midfield trios (along with Luka Modrić) in recent football history.
Kroos even acknowledged his former teammate’s post with a succinct response.
Kroos has one last club game to play for Real Madrid, a certain Champions League final at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund, before he joins the Germany setup ahead of the Euros.
Don’t let Casemiro’s recent performances define his legacy
Casemiro’s recent underwhelming performances and the ensuing criticism, often turning into vitriol, have clouded many people’s memory of the kind of player Casemiro was during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Only two seasons ago was the 3-year-old one of the best players on the pitch as Real Madrid shut Liverpool out in the Champions League final to pick up their 14th Big Ears. The environment which one inhabits can play a huge role in one’s outside perception, after all.
Casemiro may remain at United next season and play a crucial part in helping the club build back better. He may also just as easily be shipped off to other pastures.
