Man United target believes next season will be very special for him.
Manchester United linked 27-goal striker Ollie Watkins had an incredible run during the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old made 53 appearances recording a total of 27 goals and 13 assists and even bagged the PL Playmaker of the season award.
It goes without saying that Watkins has been pivotal in helping Aston Villa qualify for Champions League football for next season. However, his future could lie elsewhere. Here’s what the 28-year-old had to say on the matter. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“We have been tremendous all season – very consistent – and we finished where we deserved – with Champions League football coming to Villa Park.”
“Next year will be very special. What happened at Palace was poor – individually and collectively – but this doesn’t tell the story of our season. We’ve been great all year.
From Watkins’ words, it’s clear to see he has no intentions of leaving Villa Park at the moment. Even if he did, it wouldn’t be the smartest of decisions for the 28-year-old, especially after having the best season of his career.
If Ollie Watkins pushes for a move this summer he would be leaving a comfortable setting for uncharted waters. Yes, he was tremendous for Aston Villa this season, however, change can be brutal.
There’s no telling what kind of performance Watkins would put up in a different team. Moreover, he likely won’t leave Aston Villa who will be playing in the UCL next season for Manchester United who might not even make it to the Europa League.
